Winter Family Portraits: Philadelphia Family Photographer

Ah, outdoor winter sessions in Pennsylvania! Seems like such risky business, doesn't it?! Philly tends to flipflop between bone chilling 20 degree days and 50 degree mild, sunny days. I'm always hesitant to schedule outdoor portrait sessions in the cold months because you just can't predict what kind of weather you will get!

Thankfully for this day, it was a mild and balmy winter afternoon! We originally were going to do a cozy indoor winter session, but decided to move it outdoors at my favorite location when the weather shifted! I am SO GLAD we did. We had gorgeous, glowy winter light and this particular location is amazing because it still looks beautiful even though the trees are bare and gray.

The Silver family & I gel really well because they are naturally an affectionate family and it's so easy for me to capture them! They have three beautiful children who adore each other. Their parents are so loving and affectionate. They are just all around a 5 star family and I am so honored I was able to capture these!

Harsh sunlight is something I tend to try to avoid as a photographer. This session started around 3:15 PM, so not quite sunset time yet but still late afternoon. I decided I was just going to embrace the sun and work with the lighting in a way that would produce glowy images without compromising the highlights! From a technical stand point, harsh sun is generally considered a tricky lighting scenario, but from an artistic stand point? I'm obsessed with the sun flares and sun haze!
